Oregano, Onion, Honey, & Cinnamon for the Cough

Author: Charles Mallard
For a non-stop cough with phlegm and congestion, this is one natural remedy I highly recommend:
Prepare about 12 ounces of filtered water, two tablespoons of honey, a good pinch of oregano, a quarter of a half-cut onion, and a quarter of a stick of cinnamon. Boil everything altogether. Serve in a coffee cup and drink warm. I do it in one big chug since it doesn\'t have a good taste. The onion will give you the burps for a few minutes afterwards to remind you that you will soon be rid of the cough. This remedy is recommended at night before going to bed. It has the same effect as Nyquil, but it\'s all natural and non-alcoholic. The right way to eliminate the cough is to repeat this remedy every night for 5-7 nights. Usually after two or three it will be gone but a few more days is a good way to prevent a reoccurrence.

Lemon grass tea and mint tea kind of cure the same cough, but this is a sure way. I have had coughs that during the day aren\'t too bad, but a night soon, as I lay down, all the congestion goes into my lungs and it becomes a non-stop cough.  I would but Vicks on my chest and that was okay, but the pain from wanting to cough was still there. Another thing I would do is raise my head up when I went to sleep and that helped somewhat also. This natural remedy is better than all the other ways. The onion taste nasty, but there is a good flavor to the honey and cinnamon. Still it fit the old adage: good medicine never taste good.

Some not exactly but kind of sort of side-effects are the laxatative properties. The phlegm has to come out somewhere and it does. There is usually a pain in the stomach from drinking this that goes away after you go to the bathroom. It has the same effect that mangoes have on me. Almost an instant shot to the throne. For some it will only stimulate flatulations, which are scientifically proven to be healthy. It\'s all part of the cure and doesn\'t last too long.
