
Liver disorders (also called hepatic disease) is a broad term describing any single number of diseases affecting the liver.

Chronic Hepatitis:
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver.A group of viruses known as the hepatitis viruses cause most cases of hepatitis due to alcohol, certain medications, some industrial organic solvents a nd plants,other infections and autoimmune diseases.
Hepatitis may occur with limited or no symptoms, but often leads to jaundice, anorexia (poor appetite) and malaise.
Main causes for hepatitis are:
- Alcoholism
- Smoking
- Excess intake of red meat
- Lack of sleep
- Too much sun exposure
- Spicy, oily, heavy foods
- Sweet, ripe fruits
- Mung dahl, lentils
- Dairy - butter, buttermilk, milk, cream
- Sweet and bitter vegetables
- Grains - oats, basmati rice, barley
- Spices - coriander, fennel, cardamom, dill, turmeric
Jaundice is a yellowish pigmentation of the skin,the white part of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelids and other mucous membranes caused by increased levels of bilirubin in the blood.Due to unhealthy body cells and tissues, the skin and more noticeably the white of eyes get a yellow tint.
In the Ayurvedic terms Jaundice is a complaint of the pitta region of the body, which indicates making of toxins in an intestinal area that is causes an in-balance in the overall dosha.
Diet and lifestyle: Prefer to intake boiled & spiceless diet. With vegetables- radish leaves, tomato, lemon . And dry fruits- dried dates with almonds & Cardemoms. Have plenty of sugarcane juice, orange juice, bitter Luffa and barley water.This enhances urination which helps eliminate excess bile pigments in the blood. Take complete rest. Avoid heat, sex and pshychic factors like anger and anxiety.
Liver Cirrhosis:

Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver and poor liver function. It is the final phase of chronic liver disease.
In ayurveda, liver cirrhosis is also known as yakrit vriddhi. It is mainly caused due to alcoholism, fatty liver diseases and hepatitis. Cirrhosis limits the important functions of liver, that include regulation of protein, production of bile to absorb vitamins and fats and elimination of toxins and pathogens.
Main causes for cirrhosis are:
Alcoholic liver disease
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)
Chronic hepatitis
Autoimmune hepatitis
Inherited disease
Blocked bile duct
Chronic hepatitis B and D
Ayurvedic treatment procedures:
- Take 1 teaspoon of Bhringaraja plant juice thrice a day in case of liver cirrhosis in infants. You can also mix this juice with honey if you find the taste astringent or bitter.
- In case of adults, Katuki should be the choice of drug. Mix a teaspoon of powder with equal amount of honey and take it thrice a day.
- 2-4 tablets of Arogyavardhini medicine mixed in a cup of warm water can be given thrice a day.
- Take Trivari to reduce the symptoms of jaundice. Other drugs that are useful in this treatment are Triphala, Kakamachi and Vasaka.

Ascities is that condition of body in which, fluid is accumulated in the cavity of abdomen. The stomach gets swollen. There is a heavy and uneasy feeling. The legs are swelled up. Even breathing is not normal, which causes rapid palpitation.The condition is quite painful and the person suffering from it finds it extremely inconvenient to even move around.
Treatments:
Ayurvedic herbal treatment for ascites includes oral medication to treat the known causes for the condition, specific treatment to reduce accumulation of fluid, as well as treatment to remove the obstruction, which is usually present due to cirrhosis of the liver. Diet regulation plays an important part in the Ayurvedic management of ascites. Most patients with confirmed ascites are initially given an exclusive diet of milk for six months, followed by a mixture of milk and other liquids for another three months, after which light diet is advised for another three months.
