Brahmi is small shallow rooted creeper which grows in marshy wetlands all over the Indian sub-continent. It is rich in the alkaloids Brahmine, and herpestine and Vitamin C. The goodness of the Brahmi plant is contained in its leaves and can be used in salads and sandwiches.
Mood fluctuation though is a disorder that is related to the brain but still it is highly influenced by the disturbances of the normal metabolic disorders in the body. Due to metabolic disturbances, our body remains under nourished and hence the proper requirement of the cell is not fulfilled.
It is also given to the patients suffering from insomnia. It helps in relieving them from all their stresses and makes them feel good and relaxed. Brahmi, vacha and amalaki powders are mixed in equal proportions and given thrice a day in the dose of one teaspoon to the patients to get them relief from sleeping disorders
It is useful in the treatment of epilepsy. The juice of the plant is extracted and used in the preparation of the medicine. In the treatment of epilepsy, brahmi is traditionally used in conjunction with vacha.
Other popularly known ayurvedic herbs that are traditionally known to improve memory are Shankapushpi and Gotu Kola. All these herbs including Brahmi are medhya herbs, which mean they improve the coordination between dhi (learning), dhriti (retention) and smriti (long-term memory).

It helps in relieving nervous congestion and strain from them, as it possesses ushan virya potency, thereby it reduces vata dosha, which is main culprit in causing such problems.
