The pressure of the fluid called blood, against the flexible and contractible tubes called arteries. It is both a measure of how hard your heart is contracting (Systolic), and the resistance to stretching of the arteries (Diastolic).
When your heart contracts (beats), a pressure wave or "pulse" is sent from your heart to, and through, your arteries. Systolic pressure, is the measured of this pulse wave.
